Comic-Con 2003 was filled with lots of long lines, happy (and
some disgruntled) fanboys, and tons of cool stuff. Especially if you are a
Ghostbusters fan. Which is good news since Ghostbusters has been absent for
some time from shows like this.
88MPH had a booth set up in the Image Pavillion for the new
Ghostbusters comic (
more information) and
88MPH staff were on hand to sign exclusive posters, show off sample pages,
and answer questions to curious convention goers. For more Comic-Con coverage
on the comic, take a look at the
HQ's 88MPH Comic
Page.
There were a handful of Ghostheads on hand. Unfortunately, I
didn't get to meet up with them for the Gathering of Ghostheads, but it was
great to see people walking around in Ghostbusters gear.
Also, in the NECA booth were the new Stay Puft and Slimer mini-statuettes.
They looked great, and sitting next to Gremlins and Christmas Story figures
sure made crowd goers feel nostalgic.
Highlights included Kevin Smith's Q and A, the unveiling of
a new Spider-Man 2 poster featuring Doc Ock, and meeting Walt and Bryan at
the View Askew booth.
The show stealer by far was Batman: Dead End, a 10 minute short
film made for 30 grand that was shown on Saturday. The audience (small since
it was shown in one of the smaller meeting rooms) went crazy, laughing at
parts that were just so fanboy related that any Bat fan couldn't help but
geek out. When the short finished, the crowd demanded that it be shown again...
and it was, to another amazing response from the very same crowd. Definitely
a once in a lifetime opportunity since it looks like the film won't be released
anywhere (once you see it, you'll see why it proves to be a legal enigma).
But they say that a picture is worth a thousand words, so

swag as well as some highlights from the show!
