Weaver becomes a "Hero"
Busted Thursday, July 31, 2003, 4:06 PM by Netsolo

The Hollywood Reporter alerts the HQ that Sigourney Weaver has just signed for the film "Imaginary Heroes" directed by Dan Harris (X2). Though don't expect Weaver to be suited up and kicking ass in this one. It sounds like a drama based around a family dealing with the suicide of their eldest son (a swimmer... Ordinary People anyone? Anyone?).

Kevin Smith meet Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters meet...
Busted Tuesday, July 29, 2003, 2:56 PM by Netsolo

More Ghostbusters mentions elsewhere on the web, Kevin Smith run Movie Poop Shoot has a Ghostbusters NOW Comics AND 88MPH Comics mention. Will more coverage come in the Comics 101 section? It would be very cool.

"Also, in case you guys haven't heard...88 MPH Studios is working on a Ghostbusters comic. Based off the first movie. Granted the books kinda sucked, but could you give us a primer on the old NOW Comics Real Ghostbusters comics? Or maybe on NOW Comics in general (Married with Children, Bats, Cats and Cadillacs, stuff like that). Or maybe just a shoutout about the new GB comic? Anything to help sales, anything to help sales..."

Here's that link for the rest of the goods though the Mail Shoot doesn't answer the reader's question.

In a Comic-Con wrap up article over on filmforce.ign.com Proton Charging's own Chris Stewart mentions Ghostbusters in his summary:

"I wake up and stumble off to the con, still feeling a little wobbly from last night's drinking and being merry. This, I can sense, is going to be a long day. However, I quickly run into some guys in Ghostbusters outfits and I feel better. One of their proton packs even plays the theme song. Neat!"

Now I have a reason to mention League on the site...
Busted Thursday, July 17, 2003, 1:02 AM by Netsolo

Today's issue of Daily Variety had a HUGE Ghostbusters mention. The article (appearing on the back page and featuring a picture of Ray Stantz from the original film next to a Gremlins poster) compared the studio release of Pirates of the Carribean (Disney) and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Fox, which you should go see if you haven't... okay, I digress) to the release of Gremlins and Ghostbusters back in the summer of 1984. Wow, that was a huge run-on sentence, Ms. Byrne please look the other way.

The article states how it's a gamble for the studios to release similar age focused films from the same genre in the same week and while both Ghostbusters and Gremlins (obviously) did well despite going head to head, Disney is blowing League out of the water (pun very strongly intended) because of it's brand recognition.

Then the article gets into other examples and so on. But definitely cool to see a Ghostbusters photo in Variety. Not to mention the fact that I had a heart attack when I saw Ghostbusters and Gremlins and immediately thought sequel announcements.

Not going to San Diego Comic-Con?

The HQ's got your back! I'll be there Saturday and Sunday hitting the sites, taking many a snapshot, and definitely picking the brain of the 88MPH folks that will be there. Stay tuned to the GBHQ for coverage (and pictures of all those ultra-cute girls dressed in Padme costumes... or so I hope).

Bill Murray's "Lost"
Busted Monday, July 14, 2003, 4:03 PM by Netsolo

The trailer for Bill Murray's new film written and directed by Sofia Coppola has hit and it looks EXCELLENT (well, the film does, the trailer is in Windows Media and the quality is terrible). Head over to Yahoo Movies' site to view!

Wizard's "ToyFare" Mentions the new Comic!
Busted Saturday, July 12, 2003, 3:24 AM by Netsolo

Hmmm, after reading that headline the ol' common sense is saying "why isn't Wizard mentioning the book and why is the toy magazine mentioning it?" But a mention is a mention. The article is basically a rehash of the press release with the Ray Stantz character picture that was originally released. Not much, but a sign that things are on the horizon (and from one of the leaders in comic news/reviews!). More info on the 88MPH Comic.

Not busy tonight (or this weekend for that matter)?
Busted Friday, July 11, 2003, 1:08 PM by Netsolo

It's a bit of unrelated material but hey, Neil gets to post when he's got ol' computer stuff for sale so why can't I throw a plug for a movie that I know first-hand that a lot of very good people worked very hard on-- so on that note go out and see League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, take a friend, take a neighbor, take some dude off the street!

Ghosthunters... great...
Busted Thursday, July 10, 2003, 2:09 AM by Netsolo

Variety magazine has been posting for quite some time that a horror/adventure film called "Ghosthunters" was prepping for production and it looks as if production has started. Does it have anything to do with Ghostbusters? No. Does the name look to be playing off the franchise? Yes. Does the plot sound ultra-similar to Michael J. Fox's "The Frighteners?" Very much so.

More on this flick to come.

I've been meaning to post for a while but continue to forget so here 'tis: Castewar of the ultra-cool and always up-to-date protoncharging.com is arranging a meeting of Ghostheads. The closest to a convention that we'll get since Mav tried to hold a convention in his parent's basement without prior arrangements being made.

Check out his map/gathering info over on Proton Charging. Look for me at Comic-Con in San Diego, I'll be the one at the Star Wars booth demanding a "do over" on the prequels.

Ecto-Cooler is back... or is it? Ghosthead, if indeed that is your real name, consider this: X-Entertainent and "The Avengers" on the boards provide the HQ with this:

Apparently, Hi-C's current 'Orange Lavaburst' flavor bears a striking resemblance in taste to Slimer's fabled citrus punch. I was skeptical, since Ecto Cooler has been the target of many awful rumors over the years. Do a web search on it -- you'll find everything from desperately makeshift home recipes to false diatribes about how it's still sold in some Poughkeepsie general store that's fronted by an old man who always - ALWAYS carries a pitchfork.

Intrigued? Net is! Check out the rest over on X-Entertainment at this link!

Caddyshack... now it'll get ya fired.
Busted Tuesday, July 8, 2003, 12:39 AM by Netsolo

Careful what you say, or what you quote, Ghostheads. If you quote Bill Murray's Carl Spackler character it might get ya fired. At least if you're a newspaper editor. Here's the story from the AP line:

The sports editor of the Roswell Daily Recor K
or fabricating part of a news story about a golf tournament in which he quotes a fictional character from the movie "Caddyshack."
Gregory M. Jones was fired June 17. His article about a Father's Day golf tournament at the Roswell County Club had appeared the day before on the paper's sports page, said Mike Bush, the Daily Record's editor.
Bush said he did not know whether Jones attended the tournament.
"He got a bunch of scores and wanted to make it more interesting," Bush said Thursday. Bush said the story contained three fictitious paragraphs.
Bush said his newspaper insists on accuracy and objectivity and "we don't tolerate anything less than that."
There is no phone listing for a Gregory Jones in Roswell and a message left for a G. Jones by The Associated Press was not immediately returned. Bush said he did not have personal telephone numbers for Jones.
Jones was hired in July 2002 as reporter and was promoted to state-business editor in November. He became sports editor in April.
In the story, Jones referred to a Carl Spangler who claims to work at the course. The film comedy "Caddyshack" features Bill Murray as a character named Carl Spackler, who works at a golf course.
In the story, Jones quoted Spangler as saying he invented a new kind of grass for the tournament. The quotation in Jones' story is taken directly from "Caddyshack":
1 11This is a hybrid . . . of bluegrass, Kentucky bluegrass, featherbed bent and northern California sensemilia (sic),' Spangler said. 1The amazing stuff about this, is that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on the stuff.1 11
Jones also wrote that the "disheveled and apparently drunken Spangler was later escorted off the property. It appears he was never an employee of the Roswell Country Club, though he appears to have put in some time at a place called Bushwood. I don't know..."
Bush said the Daily Record had received "a couple of complaints" about the story. The newspaper ran a correction after the story appeared in print.
