April 2004Sneak peek at the NECA packaging... Randy stopped by the GBHQ:MB today with some news, namely a link to Their official NECA website that has some pictures of the images that will appear on the Ghostbusters action figure packaging. Neat!
Aykoyd "Kranks" it up... Dan Aykroyd's started production today on his latest flick with Tim Allen adn Jamie Lee Curtis (previously titled "Skipping Christmas")-- now titled "Christmas with the Kranks." The movie, produced by Chris Columbus opens November 24th. Simpsons Ghostbusters mention... Issue 93 of the new Simpsons comic there's a few great panels of Ghostbusters references... I'm working on getting a scan up now. Hope ya like covers... here's two more! Direct from the good chaps at 88MPH Studios here are the covers for the special second printing of issue one of "Legion" and the cover for issue two of the monthly mag. Indeed this brings the total of covers available for issue one to six. Thanks be to Kingpin for the early morning tip.
GB3 news from Ernie Hudson From Darkhorizons.com: Close friend of DH [Dark Horizons] 'Wirrrn' just got off the phone with Ernie Hudson for a recent interview about the finished superb HBO series "Oz" which finally hit Aussie network TV this year and the topic of "Ghostbusters 3" came up. Sadly nothing new to report on this front: "Yeah, I've heard the rumours too! I've met with Danny (Aykroyd) recently, and he'd love to do it, I'd love to do it, Harold Ramis would love to do it, but Bill Murray isn't interested, he doesn't like sequels. I'd love for it to go ahead, but it'd have to be soon, or we'll all be too old to bust anything! I doubt it'll happen."
Rubies Ghostbusters Costume on the way? Definenormal chimes in with this on the boards: According to the February 2004 Licensing Magazine, this Halloween season there will be a Ghostbusters jumpsuit costume complete with an inflatable proton pack... though it isn't exactly something that popped right off the screen and could pass as a screen worn prop, it's still cool to have something official. DN was also kind enough to host images of the article here.
I thought he only did golf? Justin reports in that Bill Murray threw out the first pitch at the Chicago Cubs' home opener this past Monday, and as he was walking out on the field, the stadium PA system blared the Ghostbusters theme and the crowd went nuts. Guess he was right, he always WILL be a Ghostbuster. Newsarama reports on the 88 Book Selling Out (not that way...) http://newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11640 Didn't we report this DAYS ago? ;) GB Comic East Coast Update Nick (Papageorgio?) chimes in with this update on the New York comic sales: Hey, I live in New York, and just wanted to let you know the rundown on the situation here. I called Midtown Comics (huge place) yesterday asking for it. Sold out (guy knew right away, didn't have to check). Called Village Comics - sold out. Forbidden Planet - had a few left (had also received five of the black light covers, but were sold out of those...of course). The fact that it took several tries to find it in New York is really, really good news. Also good news is that the comic rocks!! So if you're into analogies... Germans are to David Hasselhoff as New Yorkers are to Ghostbusters. GB Issue #1-- SOLD OUT! It's like heading to a Whitesnake concert... uh... if Whitesnake was still... anyway... the first issue of the 88MPH Studios Ghostbusters comic is SOLD OUT from the distributor Diamond Comics. What does this mean? Every printed copy is out there somewhere, on a rack, in a collector's hands, or sitting in a stock room! Grab 'em while you still can!
Aykroyd on Larry King... Today's phone in topic, ghosts and ghostbusting... Or John Belushi. Friday the 9th's Larry King show will feature an interview with Dan Aykroyd and the late John Belushi's wife Judy. John just this past week received his "star" on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Dan and Judy will be on the show to, most likely, discuss his life and his career both of which were ended far too soon. There probably won't be any mention of Ghostbusters (unless briefly to discuss that John was supposed to be in the original version of the film) but it's definitely worth taking a look at. I'll be out of town, anyone care to grab some video? Thanks to RoS for the tip!
Net's Review of GB Issue One 88MPH's book is out now- and it's FLYING off the shelves. If you care about spoilers I wouldn't continue reading this article. Still here? Here goes: Issue One was flawless. It sets up the characters once again perfectly, everyone is true to their "lore" and the dialogue is snappy and adheres to the SCTV-like community comedy. Dabb really nailed it right down to the Dana and Louis relationship (he's still stalking her despite his newfound fame). The art is top notch. Especially the subway bust, talk about a high class independent comic that just makes ya nostalgic but at the same time, really pumps you up that this isn't your Ghostbusters from the late 80s. There's an edge there that wasn't quite present when you flipped through the NOW pages (which often went for camp over comedy). All four of the boys look awesome- and my worries after seeing the preview art that Venkman and Stantz looked to similar were strongly put to rest. I may not be able to get the color of my prop Ghostbusters jumpsuit down pat but Blond-- you're my hero. They may look a little purple on the cover of Iss Two but throughout the book it just screams Laszlo Kovacs. And forget the Janine fetish page (which is appropriately comical when you see it and think of it being deemed so by Dabb)-- Kurth knows how to draw Dana. He's taken the "girl next door" soccer-player girl appeal of an almost youthful Sigourney Weaver and just made her shine. There isn't much to talk about plot-wise as Issue One sets up the characters and situations nicely for the rest of the series (Lucas should have read this before making Phantom Menace). But it definitely leaves you drooling for more. Here's the catch: I was only able to pick up the variant cover. Know why? Golden Apple was selling out! That's one of the major retailers in LA and they're out of stock, should be good news for Sebastein and crew. I've got all these issues pre-ordered but we all know I'm impatient and needed a copy stat- but they would only stash one cover behind the desk for me and the rest, as they say, is history. Congrats guys- this is big... very big.
Newport Beach Screening Info... In what is panning out to be a once in a lifetime opportunity, the Newport Beach Film Festival will be screening Ghostbusters to celebrate the flick's 20th Anniversary, along with a panel of guests who will hold a Q&A session afterward. The Netmeister has already picked up his tickets and will be on-hand for the whole shebang (here's hoping they'll let us video tape or something) but don't let this one pass you by. On last conversation with the good folks planning the event, they informed me that nobody is confirmed yet (it's Hollywood- makes sense with everyone's fluxuating schedules). But Proton Charging is reporting that Director of Photography Laszlo Kovacs, ASC will be on hand along with "minor cast members." April 18th, $10, $5 for seniors and students... buy now or forever hold your peace. http://www.newportbeachfilmfest.com/
April 7th... it's time... Hop in the car, or if you're not old enough, dust off that old Huffy... and if it's snowing- grab a dogsled- and get yourself to the comic book shop tomorrow because this time, it's for real. The 88MPH comic book is printed, signed, sealed, delivered and ready for you to put fingerprints all over. Don't believe me? Dabb's already got his comp copies. After you've picked up the book, read it cover to cover a few times, then woken up from your shock induced coma- drop into the GBHQ spot where all the kids'll be talking about it by clicking that little button at the bottom. You know, the one that appears right about... now...
