GBHQ proudly announces the launch of an exclusive fan fiction series, Ghostbusters: Beginnings.

Taking place shortly after the second movie, the series follows the guys in a way like never before. STANTZ, SPENGLER, ZEDDEMORE, and VENKMAN are back, as businesses men!

Hoping to cash in on the franchise rights, the guys expand their company into a corporation. However, no Fortune 500 company was built overnight, and the Ghostbusters face the same problems.

“Beginnings” follows the first team of “Ghostbusters International”, as they try to clean up the streets of New York and keep imposters from taking over.

The series takes a look at Ghostbusters, similar to Aykroyd’s first drafts. The new team members are more like Janitors, than game show hosts.

Undertaking this project is head writer, Ron Daniels. Known for his work as a member of the Ghostbusters fan fiction community, Ron is sure to do justice to the title. Troy Benjamin will also help in the writing process in multiple ways.

On the visual side, Tommy Miller will be creating title graphics. For the character art, GBHQ found Roger Johnson. Haven been a member of the community for a long time, Roger is known for delivering quality works. He has done no less this time. A nonmember of the community, known simply as Bongo, is responsible of the coloring of all the characters. The job she does is quite extraordinary and really makes the image.

The series is set to hit the HQ around Christmas, keep checking out the news section for more information.

As GBHQ reported recenlty, Steve Martin has been casted for Ivan Rietman's Pink Panther remake. This is no longer true:

"Steve Martin may be getting $5 million less than Mike Myers was commanding for "Birth of The Pink Panther" but he certainly is demonstrating plenty of muscle. First the film lost its contemporary setting and became a prequel to the original set in the early 1960s.

Then Ivan Reitman who had been at the helm of the series' revival since 1997 was sent packing and Martin brought in the producing-directing team of Bob Simmonds and Shawn Levy who he had just worked with on the remake of "Cheaper By the Dozen".

If you havent heard, Eddie Murphy's new movie is about spooks and specters. Disney's 'Haunted Mansion', a second ride-turned movie, stars Murphy, who was considered for the role of Winston.

Now, even USA Today can't get by reviewing the movie without making a Ghostbusters' reference.

"Maybe it's just a comedian's rite of passage. Eddie Murphy is only doing what Bob Hope, Abbott and Costello, Martin and Lewis, that Ghostbusters crew and yes, even, Francis the Talking Mule have done before. But in those cases, you believed that the actors' hearts were halfway in it, no matter how tough Francis' career motivations were to read."

River_of_Slime needs you! To send an email to Universal Studios that is, because they have a fine piece of movie memorabilia in their possession in the form of the Ecto-1A from GB2 that they're just letting go the way of Alf's spaceship (that's right, whatever happened to THAT prop, hmm?).

"1. All the chrome is shot.
2. There's a hole in the drivers side window that they tape up with regular tape so no rain can get in.
3. The drivers side vent window is open and rain can get in, it's ruining the interior and the floorboard is rusty.
4. The roof rack is basically ruined. There are rust spots popping up everywhere.

I could go on forever But if you want to complain to USF and ask them to restore it their email is guestservices@universalorlando.com"

For more information, pop on over to the GBHQ:RD thread on the matter, but before you do- shoot off an email to the good folks at USF!

Ivan finds his "Inspector"
Busted Friday, November 14, 2003, 5:29 PM by Netsolo

Pink Panther and Ivan Reitman fans rejoice, Steve Martin has been tapped to play the good Inspector in the remake of "The Pink Panther!"

From the Hollywood Reporter

Steve Martin has agreed to step into the role of Inspector Clouseau for MGM. Chris McGurk, vice-chairman and chief operating officer at MGM, confirmed Martin's decision Thursday night at an open house hosted by the studio. The original "Pink Panther" starred Peter Sellers as the bumbling French detective on the trail of a slippery jewel thief. Sellers kept the franchise going in four subsequent features, while Roger Moore and Alan Arkin also took turns in Clouseau's trench coat. Ivan Reitman and his Montecito Picture Co. are producing the remake with Reitman attached to helm. MGM's Toby Jaffe is overseeing the project for production topper Michael Nathanson. Martin is repped by ICM. He next stars in 20th Century Fox's "Cheaper by the Dozen" in December.

A couple days in the life of Dan Aykroyd...

The man is everywhere recently it seems! He was out in St. Louis as a promotion for the new Charter Cable and the article out at St. Louis Today has some good stuff. Among the highlights when Dan was asked what the best part about being a celebrity is:

"You get a chance to meet incredibly interesting people who are leaders in science, medicine and politics," Aykroyd said. "Aside from that, other than getting you the good seat at a restaurant, fame is pretty useless."

Dan Aykroyd: "GB3 will NEVER happen."
Busted Wednesday, November 12, 2003, 7:30 PM by Netsolo

Channel 4 in the UK reports this:

"Veteran movie comedian DAN AYKROYD has ruled out the possibility of a third GHOSTBUSTERS film - because co-star BILL MURRAY doesn't want to be involved.

Dan, 51, admits all the original team would like to make another installment but unless Bill changes his mind it won't happen.

He says, "Never. That will never happen. Unless Bill Murray agrees. Everyone else would love to do it, COLUMBIA, HAROLD RAMIS, myself, director IVAN REITMAN.

"It's a five-way rights situation and Bill is locking up his piece of the rights because he feels that was work that he just wants preserved and he doesn't want it diluted.

"And as an artist I can respect that." "

For the full details check out Channel 4 UK's website.

Along with this, I would like to say hello to everyone. I'm one of the new "news" guys here at GBHQ, call me Jesusfreak call me Ron. So without further adieu, "HELLO!".

NECA Action Figure break down from ToyFare!
Busted Wednesday, November 12, 2003, 3:45 PM by Netsolo

Here's the article from ToyFare magazine about the brand spankin' new action figures!

"NECA first got a sense of how much fan-demand there was for Ghostbusters action figures when they releasedtheir Ghostbusters "Body-Knockers"--bobbling figurines of Slimer and the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man--earlier this year. "The reaction was huge," Chris Farinas said. "Action figures seemed to be the next logical step. The fan base has always wanted the line."

The first line of 7-inch scale action figures will focus on the creatures of 'Ghostbusters', including Slimer, with an ectoplasm display base and munching action; Gozer, with interchangable head and hands and translucent energy beams; terror dogs Zuul and Vinz Clortho, each with light-up eyes and a temple base; and an 18-inch rotocast Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, with a city street base, an altenate head and movable eyes.

In addition to the ghost figures, there will also be a line of Ghostbusters Genomes, featuring block figures of the original foursome--Venkman, Spengler, Stantz and Zeddmore--with a Slimer figure twrown in for good measure."

It makes sense that the boys haven't gotten the full action figure treatment since I'm sure the likeness rights are a pain for them to acquire.

Two quick news tips about the site folks, then it's back to regularly scheduled programming...

The HQ has hit its 100,000th viewer since Maverick's excellent site redesign. Thanks for all of your support and if each and every one of you sent me a dollar, I could have retired early. But that's beside the point.

Here's the big news:

The Winners of the GBHQ News Anchor Contest! (Drum roll)

FaNBoY and Ron have been chosen from a TON of excellent entries to begin posting news on the main page here. What does this mean? More updates? Yes. Not having to listen to me babble all of the time? Also a big yes. Honorable mentions should go to DaneGB and dr. raystantz for their excellent entries but here are the two winning articles:

FaNBoy:(Okay, let me reiterate that this is a CONTEST ENTRY and not a real news story, this is totally fiction dear friends)Dan Aykroyd announced today that Troy "Netsolo" Benjamin would direct the long awaited Ghostbusters 3.The announcment comes as a surprise, seeing as how many thought Ivan Reitman who directed the first two movies would direct. Reitman, however has been missing for almost 2 months now. "I have no clue where he is", Benjamin said as a loud pounding was heard from his closet.

Benjamin, who's other credit's include "The Other Side of Heaven" and "The Nerd Strikes Back" says this is a dream come true. "I can now fufill my dream of seeing Natalie Portman slide down a firepole!" says the elated director. When asked what other celebs would be cast, he said, "I have two guys who are ready to bust some heads, naga-nooch!!"

Filming for Ghostbusters 3 is expected to start in April 2004, shortly after Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis finish the script treatment. The release date for the movie is expected to be Feburary 2004.

Ron:Dan Aykroyd announced today, that Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and himself were picked up by the Boston Red Sox in the last day of the MLB draft.

Congratulations guys, and GBHQ viewers- look for them to start posting news real soon!
