February 2004You think she's still naked? With all the security around? Something that fanboy posted a while back that I thought deserved mention again. The ol' Statue of Liberty needs your help- post September 11, she's been closed to the public and that is where you come in. Head to http://www.statueofliberty.org/ now and find out what you can do! Cubs fans wanna "bust" the infamous foul ball... Remember the fan who snatched a foul ball out of the hands of the Chicago Cubs outfielder that has supposedly "cursed" the team since? Even fairweather baseball fans do- but Chicago area fans are ready to take that ball and smash, destroy, obliterate, and a fourth thing. Among their suggestions? Have Chicago native Bill Murray dress up in Ghostbusters gear and "obliterate" it. Sounds pretty funny, but sorry Chicago- think that's about as likely as Ghostbusters 3 at this point. More? Check out the MLB website/AP release Harold Ramis set to direct the "Ice Harvest" Variety reported today that Harold Ramis will direct the Focus Features dark-comedy starring John Cusack, Monica Belluci, and Billy Bob Thornton. This Dynamic Forces Interview goes in-depth with Sebastein and he talks about the troubles that a small publisher has faced when going up against large licenses like Ghostbusters and Tron. Definitely, definitely, definitely worth a read. Thanks to the D for the scoop. Aykroyd on According to Jim Here I promised myself I wouldn't miss it... but I did. Dan Aykroyd guest starred on Jim Belushi's ABC sitcom "According to Jim" last night. Neil grabbed a quick screen cap but if anyone got video- send it along! ![]() March 10-- 88MPH--shh, calm... Comics hit unexpected delays and even though it's Ghostbusters, the franchise which a select few of us have put on high, the new 88MPH book is no exception. Sebastein Clavet, the big cheese at 88MPH says that the first issue will be hitting stands March 10. But no worries on this effecting the rest of the books. Frantic and/or manic calls to your local comic stores are not encouraged. It does happen all the time (if you've been holding your breath for Kevin Smith written DD or Spidey books, you've killed quite a few brain cells). March 10. Then open your hearts (and your wallets) to the new book. No Ghostbusters on Diamonds? Fear not. People taking a look at Diamonds expected shipping list were surprised not to see Ghostbusters on the list. Don't start overturning cars, lighting couches on fire in the streets, or... gasp... eating each other. GBHQ has received word from an extremely positively trustworthy source that the issue will be on your local stand, just a week or two tardy. The book hasn't gone the way of Tron... it's just a little (fashionably, right?) late. SNL stars on February Sweeps... According to the Orlando Sentinel: "Saturday Night Live co-stars Dan Aykroyd and Laraine Newman reunite on According to Jim." No air dates, or any other info for that matter was given. NECA figures wave two update... Ol' Castewar at Proton Charging posts: "First, the good news, as he [NECA chair Randy Falk] confirmed that the first series of monster figures is slated for a mid-May release. Now the bad news; The UK Toyfair rumour that NECA has the likeness rights to the principle cast is just that - a rumour. Falk says he's not sure where it started, but NECA does not have the likeness rights for the actors." Since the rumor wasn't posted here I'll fill everyone in. Figures.com reported late last week that NECA had obtained the likeness rights to all four of the original actors and that "figures of everyone's favorite Ghostbusters can't be all that far behind." While the second part is quite true, Randy confirmed elsewhere that they're still working really hard to get rights to the mugs of Aykroyd, Murray, Ramis, and Hudson. Lost in Translation flies off shelves; Fighting Temptations on the other hand... The scene resembled something from a bad Arnold Schwartzenegger holiday flick at Best Buy, Circuit City, and Blockbuster stores. If the empty shelves are any indication, the widescreen edition of Bill Murray's "Lost in Translation" has definitely made an impact on sales this week. (Full screen versions are still peppered here and there, but who really wants the full screen version?) It took me three stores before I found a widescreen copy. Quite cool, and quite promising for his and the film's Oscar run. I'm tellin' ya, grab a copy today. You won't be disappointed. Free tonight? Just a reminder that Bill Murray's "Lost in Translation" comes out today on VHS and DVD. You all know that I've been praising this movie since we saw it opening weekend, so now you don't have any excuse not to see it since you can watch it from the comfort of your own home. Amazon.com seems to have the best deal at 18 bucks, Best Buy and Circuit City pushing it at about 20 bucks.
GB to screen at Seattle Cinerama Theater According to the BusinessWire, a "Reel Festival" screening of Ghostbusters is in the works at Seattle's (very awesome) Cinerama theater.
